The history of the BIEGUN company dates back to 1955, the year in which the doyen of the family STANISŁAW passed the journeyman exam as a MASSACRE. The father passed his profession on to his son and daughter-in-law, who also received education in meat technology. Since 1988, for Wiesława and Piotr Biegun, the family passion has become a profession – they built a meat processing plant in Jaraczewo. At first, the scale of production was small – it satisfied the local market, it quickly turned out that the demand for the company’s products significantly exceeded the production capacity, which is why the owners of the company decided to build a facility from scratch that met all applicable quality standards. The first production started with a team of several people, today the Meat Processing Plant BIEGUN is a 130-person team of qualified specialists. In order to ensure safety and high quality of manufactured products, since 2006 BIEGUN has been implementing the ISO 9001 and 22 0000 quality management systems. These are systems that give the consumer the certainty that the entire production process in the company is fully monitored and controlled, and the quality of production is at the highest level.
Our mission is to provide consumers with a product that meets their expectations, taking into account ongoing nutritional changes and trends.
We want the Customer looking for good meat products to always consider BIEGUN as a potential supplier.
We strive to strengthen our position in the meat market, we want to be identified with safety, quality and taste.
BRC Certificate – IT IS RESPONSIBILITY towards consumers and their health
Biegun is one of the few meat plants in Wielkopolska to have obtained the BRC certificate.
What does the BRC abbreviation mean?
– The BRC abbreviation comes from the English words British Retail Consortium and is a Global Food Safety Standard recognized by many countries in the world. This is a standard developed by the British in the 1990s in response to the emerging decline in trust in the food industry caused by a number of cases dangerous to the consumer, such as contaminated or incorrectly labeled products, numerous product recalls… The main goal of BRC is to define uniform requirements for companies producing food.
Why did we decide to implement this standard?
– Jokingly speaking, “to sleep soundly…”, but seriously, the BRC standard specifically defines the conditions of production, obliges to a detailed assessment of all suppliers (raw material, spices and packaging), to identify all threats before they occur, in order to prevent their occurrence, to cyclically check labels, to continuously monitor each stage of production, including distribution…
To sum up – BRC gives us the certainty that all sausages and hams leaving our plant are safe for the final customer.
Does this mean that there are no quality complaints?
… of course, there is never a 100% guarantee, but even if there are, these are very sporadic reports that do not fall into the category of “health hazard”. We want to emphasize that we consider every single comment from a customer, even the smallest one, in great detail, we draw conclusions from each one and immediately respond to the customer with what corrective and preventive measures we are taking.
How is the BRC certificate awarded?
A certification body must be selected, which delegates competent and approved auditors within the established deadline. The role of the auditors is to determine whether the implemented standard is functioning, operating with the assumed requirements of the standard. The audit lasted over 3 days in our case, the length of the audit depends on the number of assortments. The auditors observed each work station, confronted the work of employees with documentation and records. The condition for receiving the certificate is to meet all the basic requirements of the standard.
Changes that we had to introduce to meet the requirements of the BRC standard
Because for a dozen or so years we had been working based on HACCP principles and ISO 9001; ISO 22 000 standards, we had and maintained the basics of quality safety management. We had to improve what was already functioning. Our Quality Department treated BRC as a serious challenge, first focusing on education – a huge amount of training and meetings with employees and the Management Board, continuous arrangements and schedules of work and tasks. Fortunately, our employees form a very conscious team that is open to changes. Everyone quickly adapted to the new tasks. A large investment was the purchase of metal detectors, which guarantee no physical contamination.
In summary, we consider the BRC standard to be a great tool that mobilizes and forces employees to repeat the work cycle, each production stage is monitored and recorded on electronic terminals, which archives all data. At any time, we can create reports thanks to which we identify the finished product, we can recreate the history of the product – what raw materials and additives we used and from which supplier. Who, at what time, on which devices produced, packed, prepared for shipping … this specific assortment.
The BRC certificate is recognized and recognised worldwide. As a result, it opens the door to new customers, including retail chains. An additional benefit is the fact that we do not stand still, that we improve our skills and guarantee the development of employees, and this always translates into the repeatability of processes and ultimately products.
To sum up – the BRC certificate increases the TRUST of our contractors, consumers and inspection bodies.
